Whitby Town’s final pre-season friendly with local rivals Scarborough Athletic will kick-off at 1pm on Saturday.

The game, scheduled to take place at the Turnbull Ground, will get underway two hours earlier than the usual 3pm start time, due to it clashing with the club’s Coastline Music Festival, which takes place on the same day.

The event, featuring 1970s favourites 10cc and The Real Thing, is being held at The Stables at Cross Butts, with the aim of raising funds to boost the Blues’ coffers.

Town chairman Graham Manser said: “There has been a lot of interest in our event, and now with hours to go, things are starting to come together.

“We’ve made the decision to bring the kick-off of the Scarborough game forward due to supporter demand – many of our fans who will be at the game have also bought tickets for the festival.

“We feel we have pulled off a real coup as The Real Thing and 10cc are still at the top of their game.

“Graham Gouldman is fronting 10cc, plus Chris and Eddie Amoo and Dave Smith are still the main players in The Real Thing all these years on.

“They have a huge catalogue of hits from the 70s to perform so we are very confident of a great turnout and memorable day.”

Manser also praised local businessman John Morley, owner of The Stables at Crossbutts, for his help in staging the event, and part-funding the much-needed concert.

He added: “The Morley family have been fantastic for us, their venue is just the best and with the more than decent weather forecast for Saturday we have all the ingredients for a fantastic day for the town of Whitby.

“Well in excess of 1,000 tickets have already been sold, and the major sponsorship packages are already snapped up.

“We have all worked as a team in the town but we will still have room to fill it to capacity, so the message is come along on Saturday and pay on the gate and be part of our big fun party.”

The Coastline Festival headlining 10cc and The Real Thing, with supporting acts, takes place at The Stables, Guisborough Road, Whitby on Saturday.

Payment on the door will be available from 1.30 pm.
