Whitby Town 3-1 York City

The Blues were fastest out of the blocks and opened the scoring when skipper Ste Snaith guided a header into the back of the net.

Town gloveman Shane Bland, who was outstanding throughout the encounter, was forced to make two superb stops to keep the Town lead intact, first palming a header round the post before pulling off a full length diving stop to his right to keep out a long-range effort.

The lead was increased shortly after the interval when woeful defending by the Minstermen allowed sub Luke Bythway to tap in from close range.

City sprung into life straight away and hit back, target-man Vadaine Oliver rising highest to power an unstoppable header past Bland and into the back of the net.

Town sealed the victory with the goal of the game as they won possession back on the edge of their own area and fed new signing Dave Carson, who sprayed a glorious ball over the full-back before running the full length of the pitch to receive a through-ball and guide a rasping drive into the top corner for 3-1.

Blues stopper Bland was extended two more times, first keeping out a free-kick before getting down to smartly keep out a close-range effort and help Town into the last four.
