The FA Mars Just Play scheme being delivered at Whitby and district Astroturf continues to be a huge success. with many participants accessing the informal playing sessions.
Matt Hewison, the FA Just Play centre manager, said: “After the success of last year’s programme we were asked by the FA to deliver the scheme again.
“We also introduced a ladies’ session to try to promote the women’s game, but also to have the ultimate aim of implementing the first ladies football team in the town.
“Fishburn Park have been helpful with the development of the ladies’ side and we are hoping to enter a team into the North Riding Ladies League next season, under the name of Fishburn Park Ladies FC.
“All the revenue we make from the ladies’ sessions will be given to the club to assist them with the set up and development of the team.
“We are also in the process of writing an FA Grow Your Game application.
“We have an excellent nucleus of players for the ladies team, but we really need some more players to build a squad to compete in the league.
“We are also looking for a team manager who will help us oversee the team and take training sessions next season.
“With the funding, we can provide the opportunity for someone to attend coaching courses, so it is a good opportunity for an aspiring coach to get involved.
“The adult male session that has continued from last year is an excellent session that is very informal, fun and gives anyone who wants the opportunity to just have a game of football the chance to do so.”
The ladies’ session resumes on Wednesday (9 Jan) and the men’s session starts again on Friday (11 Jan), both sessions from 7-8pm and cost just £2 to play.
