Beth Mead named 78th best female player in the world in new poll
Hinderwell’s Beth Mead has been named as 78th best female player in the world in a poll by The Guardian this week.
The Arsenal and England forward was recognised for an impressive year for club and country.
Mead’s dad Richard posted on Facebook: “Beth voted the 78th best player in the world, great recognition for a great year. Not bad for a girl from the sticks.”
Mead has also signed a new ‘long-term’ deal with Arsenal Women.
The England international has netted 33 goals in her 76 appearances for Arsenal since joining from Sunderland in January 2017.
Mead Tweeted: “Very happy to extend my contract with this amazing club @ArsenalWFC looking forward to what the future brings.”
She ended the 2017/18 campaign as Arsenal’s leading scorer with 16 goals in 24 starts in all competitions, and she then went on to play a key role in the North London club’s 2018/19 title-winning season.
Head coach Joe Montemurro said: “We are very happy that Beth has signed a new long-term contract with us.
“She is incredibly talented, and she has developed so much in the last couple of years, so we are excited to see her continued growth.
