HINDERWELL’S Beth Mead took her league tally to the season for 12 as her brace of goals helped Sunderland ladies back to the top of the Women’s National Premier League.
The Black Cats were being held 1-1 at Underhill on Sunday until Mead’s double put them firmly on the way to a 4-1 win.
Mead had a penalty appeal turned down in the busy opening period but scored in the 51st minute as the Barnet keeper misjudged the bounce and Mead pounced to slot home.
The 16-year-old added her second at the angle of the box as she took a touch before smashing the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
Mead almost added to this from a similar position after cutting inside the full back and shooting narrowly over.
This Sunday, Sunderland play at home to Coventry in a top-of the-table fixture.
