ON Saturday, Fylingdales 2nds travelled to Thornton le Dale with what appeared to be an under-strength squad.
Several regulars were unavailable so the team was a mixture of the ‘semi-retired’ and the rather young.
The four oldest players had a combined age of around 250 while the youngest four came in at under 55.
Losing the toss, Fylingdales batted first.
At the 20 overs stage Fylingdales were 72/2. The run-rate started to increase and the final total was 196/5 with captain Will Barber scoring 105 and 13-year-old Theo Clarke getting 29 on a bumpy pitch.
Thornton began their reply well, taking 19 runs from the first three overs.
After 10 overs they were 37/1, but their batting collapsed to 44/7 10 overs later, evntually closing on exactly 100.
Bill Estill took five wickets for 27 in 14 overs while Theo Clarke took 4-11 in 8 overs.
