Whitby Cricket Club skipper Will Donald believes his side have a great chance of sealing promotion to the Premier Division of the North Yorkshire South Durham League after beating previous leaders Billingham Synthonia to go top.

Synthonia were blown away by Donald (5-17) and James Hall (5-24), as they were all out for just 46.

Whitby knocked off the runs to leapfrog their visitors and go top.

Donald said: “It was really good to do the double over Billingham this year and to go back to the top is great.

“We always thought with the spin options we had we would cause them problems, although I didn’t imagine we’d be bowling them out for 46.

“We have another big game against Richmond this week, so hopefully we can get a win there and then after that we have eight games left, so will just be taking them one at a time and see where we are.

“We’ve narrowly missed out on promotion four or five times in the last six years, but I genuinely believe this is our best shot this year.”
