Whitby seal winning draw as Hall and Buck impress

Whitby 1sts impressed as they bounced back from their opening day defeat with a winning draw at home to Middlesbrough in the North Yorkshire South Durham League Division One.

Whitby sealed a winning draw against Middlesbrough

Boro won the toss and asked Whitby to bat first, the hosts going on to post a commanding total of 269-6 from their 50 overs at the crease.

Paul Buck led the Whitby innings with 60, while there were also notable contributions from Ron Lyth (56), Finlay Morris (53), Andrew Wood (30no) and Kieran Howard (25).

After the interval, only two Middlesbrough batsmen showed any resistance.

Opener Richard Knaggs made 50 early on in their innings while Aleem Ditta also hit 56, but Boro were forced to hold on at the end of their knock on 176-9 as Ricky Hall (4-29) and Kobie Boocock (2-19) shone with the ball.

Finlay Morris, Corey Hart and Steven Allen also bagged a wicket apiece.

Whitby are at home against Great Ayton 2nds this weekend.

Despite a solid effort from their top three, Whitby 2nds suffered a seven-wicket defeat on the road at Rockliffe Park 2nds in Division Three.

Ben Braim hit 58, Lewis Dobson was unbeaten on 42 and Rikki Lawrence 39 as Whitby posted 192-5 from 40 overs.

Park then cruised to 195-3 in their reply.

Whitby 2nds will look to bounce back when they travel to Marske 2nds this weekend.
