The league schedule had already been shelved for 2020, but the league's committee have now taken the decision to scrap any plans for playing cup games should any cricket be allowed to go ahead this summer.

An email to clubs read: "Following on from the cancellation of the Andy Hire Sales & Service Ltd Scarborough & District Evening Cricket League programme, the league management committee can now confirm no cup competitions will be run during 2020.

"It was our intention, as previously indicated to try and organise our three cup competitions (Linda Goulding Memorial Harburn Cup, Hunter Cup and Lloyd Dowson Cup) during July and early August if at all possible, to try to get some competitive cricket, but given there has been no indication of a specific timescale return provided by central government or the ECB to date, we feel this is the only decision we can reach as we have a shortened season.

"Although this is another blow to the league and the local cricket scene, a safe return to action is paramount.

"We will continue to work alongside the Scarborough Hospital Cup organisers should there be an opportunity to structure this competition during August and September and if you club is interested and hasn’t already dropped me an email confirming this, please do so asap.

"Please continue to respect all and following all guidelines and we look forward to seeing you in 2021, where we will be ready for a return to action."
