New boys Glaisdale wrap up league title win
Glaisdale CC have topped off a fantastic first season in the Scarborough Beckett League, winning Division A by a comfortable margin, winning every game in the process.
Having been confirmed winners two games before the end of the season, league secretary Malcolm Maw visited Glaisdale to present team captain Tom Wardell with the winners prize.
Club chairman Mark Hollingworth said: “Based on our historical performances, not many people would have given us a chance of this kind of success.
“Our main worry when starting in this new league was to be able to get together a team of 11 players each week and give the opposition a decent game.
“However, great performances from new signings for the club, young players starting to really make their mark in senior cricket, outstanding consistency from club stalwarts and a great team spirit has transformed our team.”
Some of the individual performances for Glaisdale this season include Alex Livie with 280 runs from five innings at an average of 70, which made him third top scorer in the whole league.
Fifteen-year-old Sam Spenceley scored 253 runs from seven innings at an average of 36 (sixth highest in the league).
On the bowling side, 15- year-old Jack Allanson took 15 wickets at an average of 7.2 (the third highest wicket taker in the league), Alex Burtt claimed 13 wickets at an average of 11.77 and Graham Featherstone with 11 wickets at an average of 10.73 and Tom Glasby with 11 wickets at an average of 14.18.
On Saturday, Glaisdale stormed to a 122-run win at eight-man Ravenscar, who finish the season rock-bottom of the division.
