Beckett premier title race going down to the wire

Staxton’s defeat at home to Ebberston, allied to wins for Staithes at Heslerton and Cayton at Scalby means that the three-horse battle for the Readers Scarborough Beckett Cricket League premier division title will go down to the final weekend.

Staithes, who lead Staxton by a single point, will host their closest rivals on Saturday, but Cayton, who are only three points behind Staithes, will be confident of spoiling the party for both sides above them as they are at home to relegated Flixton 2nds for their final match.

Staxton had started the day in the driving seat, but must always have sensed that a home game with Ebberston would prove tricky, and so it proved.
