The visitors looked to be heading for a heavy loss after being dismissed for 122 in 40.2 overs, with Paul Buck, 29, Andrew Marshall, 25, and Chapman, 20, the only away batsmen to get going.

The top home bowlers were Carl McGregor, 4-20, Dan Conway, 3-17, and David Jacobs, 2-27.

Chapman's superb bowling, 6-58, along with a wicket apiece for Chris Lyth and James Hall, looked to have set up a shock win for Whitby as the home side slumped to 46-5 and 83-7, but an unbeaten 57 from Nigel Turner saw them home in 25.3 overs.
