Bowes' double century delight
Staithes all-rounder Simon Bowes' has expressed his delight after his unbeaten 202 steered Staithes to a 166-run home win against Forge Valley on Saturday.
Bowes’ stunning knock guided the home side to a massive 337-4, the number four batsman plundered the ball to all parts of the ground on his way to a stunning double century, smashing an incredible 30 fours and eight sixes.
With his stunning knock, Bowes took his tally of runs for the 2018 season to date to 424, his average now sitting at an incredible 141.33.
“I had a good feeling that I was going to get a few runs before I went in, but couldn’t have imagined getting 202,” Bowes told the Whitby Gazette.
“Chris Morrison hit a double century for us last year and that was fantastic to watch, so to do it myself was a great feeling.
“I hit about 160 in boundaries and think my last half-century all came in fours and sixes.
“I felt in good nick and was finding the boundary a lot, even when they had every fielder out at one point.”
Bowes’ previous highest score was 138 playing for Hinderwell over 15 years ago, the all-rounder has had several centuries but this was his first double-ton.
“It’s great to go past 200, it went right to the wire, I hit a four off the penultimate ball to get there, it was a great feeling and one I will always look back on,” he added.
