BECKETT LEAGUE: Brilliant Bryant batters Cayton

James Bryant was the star man as he hammered a stunning 132 not out to fire Wykeham to a 10-wicket win against Cayton 2nds in Division One of the Readers Scarborough Beckett League.

Brian Heywood, 60, and Ian Dennis, 37, helped Cayton 2nds set 166-6, Wykeham's Ian Spence taking 2-34 and Adam Eustace 2-51 to help restrict them.

That total proved to be way short of a competitive total as Bryant took a liking to the Cayton attack, hammering the ball to all parts on his way to a 74-ball 132 not out to help Wykeham to 168-0, Pete Shepherdson unbeaten on 33 at the other end.

There was another centurion in Division One as Sherburn's Craig Sanderson smashed 127 to help his side past Staxton 2nds.

Sanderson's 127 and 26 from Dan Simpson helped Sherburn post 226-7, Mark Dove taking 4-39.

Despite Sean Pinder, 37, and Nick Ringrose, 29, contributing to their reply, Staxton were all out for just 108 as Mike Holtby took 3-6 and George Worthy 3-15.

Settrington stayed top of the pile with victory against Wold Newton.

Eddie Rounthwaite hit 35, Adrian Morley 32, and George Rounthwaite 28 not out as Settrington cruised to 155-2 chasing down Newton's below-par 111 all out, James Knaggs hitting 28.

Cloughton remain hot on the heels of the table-toppers after a comfortable victory against Grindale.

Jack Johnson smashed an unbeaten 60 as Cloughton posted 155-6, a total that proved too much for Grindale, who were bundled out for just 77 despite 41 from veteran all-rounder Ian Cousins.

Wily seamer Pete Milner was yet again Cloughton's star man with the cherry, taking 4-19, while James Long also took 3-16.

Brompton created some space between themselves and the bottom two with a tense three-run victory against Thornton Dale.

Thomas Pateman hit 49 as Brompton posted 144-8, Col Lockwood, 3-22 and Andy Hill, 3-34, shining with the ball.

It looked like Dale were going to make it home for the victory, but Ross Triffitt held his nerve with figures of 5-31 as Dale fell agonisingly short of their target with three balls remaining.

Frankie Beal was the star performer in the Premier Division as he claimed stunning figures of 7-17 in Ebberston's 10-wicket win against Flixton 2nds.

Flixton's batsmen found Beal too hot to handle as he cut through their line up. The hosts were well set on 47-0 but were then all out for just 95 despite Matt Dandy's 34.

Jonny Mason, 40 not out, and Ady Turnbull, 33 not out, then comfortably steered Ebberston to the win.

Forge Valley's miserable start to the 2016 campaign continued as they fell to an 82-run defeat at Cayton.

Cayton posted 141-9, Joel Boyer hitting 39, but Aussie off-spinner Alex Townsend had Valley's batsmen bamboozled on his way to 3-17 as the away side were all out for 59.

Staxton stay top of the pile after beating Heslerton by 50 runs.

The league leaders were all out for 166, skipper James Armstrong top-scoring with 34 while Linden Gray and Jodie Robson both added 31 as spinner Dan Jeminson took 4-35 and Stu Pickard, 3-33, and Andy Slaughter, 3-45, chipped in with wickets.

Ryan Hargreaves, 3-22, and Kingsley Gray, 3-28, ensured Heslerton didn't reach their target, only Tom Benthall's unbeaten 29 troubling the scorers.

Seamer's impressive start to life back in the top flight continued as they won by three wickets against Mulgrave.

The Whitby side posted 168-8, Craig Thompson hitting 81 of those runs as Matty Morris claimed 3-40.

Despite Andy Thompson taking 3-48, 61 from Anthony Jenkinson and 38 from Josh Broadhead helped Seamer to 169-7.

Champions Staithes claimed a 58-run victory on the road at Scalby.

Staithes batted first and made 202 all out, Stu Pierson hitting 78 not out with support from Paul Theaker, 32 and Richard Hegarty, 30. Scalby youngster James Deaves claimed 5-41, while Aussie Tynan Economou also took 3-52.

Paul Theaker then took 4-32 with the ball to help restrict the hosts to 144-8, in-form all-rounder Jon Barton hitting 63 and Joe Hills adding 45.

Nick Thornicroft was again too hot to handle as he claimed 6-36 in Nawton Grange's 18-run against Filey.

Grange made 196-7, Tom Garbutt hitting 52, spinner Dave Brannan claiming 4-63.

Despite Aaron Howard, 45, Jamie Gilbank, 35 and Nathan Robson, 28, all making runs, Thornicroft took six-for to fire Filey out for 178.

The top two played out a scintillating draw in Division Two as Ebberston 2nds hosted Fylingdales.

Ebberston batted first and made their way to 221-7, Paul Lockey top-scoring with 59, while Tom Holmes added 25.

Tom Shrimpton was Dales' star man with the ball, claiming figures of 3-52.

Mark Estill has been Fylingdales' star performer so far this season, and that continued as he hit a superb 93, falling agonisingly short of a century.

Harry Purves also added 35 as Dales made a good go at reaching their target, but Eddie Craggs, 4-43, ensured they finished on 221-6 with both sides taking 13 points.

Will Warwick's all-round effort couldn't prevent defeat for Ravenscar against Great Habton.

Warwick took 4-33 to restrict Habton to 122 all out despite Jack Cranage hitting 35 and Steve Hall adding 30.

Ravenscar were all out for just 69 in reply though, Warwick hitting 21.

Cranage added to his superb efforts with the bat with 6-25 as Habton won by 53 runs.

Scalby 2nds landed their first win of the season at rock-bottom Forge Valley 2nds.

Marley Ward, on loan from Flixton, hit an assured 30 and Tom Varey added 26 as the hosts looked well set to post a decent total.

That wasn't to be as Scalby skipper Anthony Geall proved to be the architect of Valley's downfall, taking 4-17 in tandem with veteran swing bowler Adie Hollingsworth, 3-4, to shoot Valley out for 103.

Scalby opener James Wainwright rolled back the years and hit 33 as the away side made it home to 104-4, Tyler Beck taking 3-26.

Bridlington 2nds jumped into third as they eased past Ganton.

Ganton slumped with 99 all out as only Danny Farrer troubled the scorer with 24.

Callum Battams was Brid’s best bowler, taking 3-18, while Oliver Beckett also took 2-14. Andy Clay led the reply with a superb 58 to help Brid to a 19 point haul.

Sewerby remain fourth after they netted a 14-point win over Scarborough 3rds.

Scarborough made it to 85-9 from their 45 overs with veteran Richard Mainprize top scoring with 28 not out as Jake Hatton took 4-17.

Alastair Sharpe made 27 as Sewerby eased home by seven wickets.
