Whitby CC’s 1st XI picked up their first victory in five attempts when they overcame Sedgefield at the Turnbull Ground.
After winning the toss and electing to field in their North Yorkshire/South Durham Division clash, James Hall’s men restricted their visitors to 142-9 from their 50 overs.
Skipper Hall and spin king Will Donald both claimed three wickets apiece, while Chris Lyth picked up a brace.
Openers Finlay Morris (36) and Donald (20) got Whitby off to a solid start in reply before 40 not out and 22 not out from in-form duo Theo Clarke and Paul Buck saw their side over the line at 146-4 in 41 overs.
Whitby 2nds’ improved Division Two form continues, but they are still deep in relegation trouble, despite a comprehensive nine-wicket success over Marton 2nds.
Andrew Wood’s side made it three wins in their last four league outings as their bowlers skittled Marton for just 71 inside 28 overs.
The visiting batsmen easily knocked off the required runs in 20 overs for the loss of just one wicket.
