I was most interested to see the splendid supplement in the Gazette featuring the recent ceremonies commemorating the Whitby Lifeboat disaster of 1861 - in which I had taken part.
Unexpectedly I was invited to go out on the William Riley as the person chosen to scatter a flower in memory of each of the 12 lifeboat men who had so tragically lost their lives on that day. It was a proud and touching moment for me which I shall always remember.
All three commemorative events proved a fitting tribute to the heroism of these men by the people of Whitby today - who proved that they also will never forget.
