Whitby Motocross Club secretary Paul Manton has written to the Whitby Gazette to say how pleased he was with the Red Bull Pro Nationals motocross racing which came to Whitby at the weekend
Through your publication, the Whitby Motocross Club would like to thank the residents of Whitby and the surrounding area for their patience and understanding during the extremely successful Red Bull Pro National Motocross meeting held at Skelder Bank Farm over the weekend of 11 and 12 June.
This prestigious series is held over several rounds at high profile venues scattered throughout Britain but Whitby is said to be just about the best.
The Red Bull series is unique in that it mixes events for all ages of competitors from the youngest of six or seven right up to the national and international expert professional riders.
All classes enjoyed the meeting, particularly the youngsters who revelled in competing on a truly professional standard track, all the razzmatazz and mixing in the paddock with their heroes who they are trying to emulate.
Despite the changeable weather, the event was very well attended and enjoyed by spectators who came from far and wide but included many from the local area.
Some came to thank the organisers for the quality of the event, the spectacular track and the marvellous venue.
Many from out of the area praised the natural beauty of the area and said they would definitely come back.
We have had reports that Whitby was busy all weekend with people attending the event and many of the town’s businesses will have benefitted.
The next meeting at the venue, due to be held on Sunday 3 July, will be the second round of the Whitby Motocross Club’s 2011 Championship.
Although it will be lower key, the racing will still be spectacular and the local motocross riders will continue to benefit from having one of the best professional tracks in the British Isles to hold their club events.
