I read your recent article with interest regarding the increases in parking permit charges for residents of the borough.
It set me off on a quest to ask how the council could justify the increase on only a limited number of people, rather than the whole borough.
The explanation given was money was required to fund new parking projects in the borough.
Having ascertained that Whitby has no new parking projects in the pipeline, are we in effect being asked to fund projects in other towns?
You may think this is the end of the story but no, whilst I was on this quest of distraction something else occurred without consultation or notification.
The council unilaterally increased the cost of scratch cards by 20%, inflation is currently running at 2.7%.
Furthermore an individual who was not aware of the increase tried to purchase this season’s scratch cards and was informed he could only purchase four days worth as the price increase came into effect on the fifth day.
As the sole vendor of scratch card sales with the monopoly on price, distribution and sales you have to question whether the scheme is being administered to benefit parking in the town or it is just a money making machine which no one can challenge.
