Letters: An accident waiting to happen

editorial image

As a responsible dog owner who understands and respects the seasonal dog ban on Whitby’s main beach, I am at a loss to understand why the decision was made to extend the restricted area to the extent of making all access to the beach almost impossible except for the most mobile of owners.

The nearest access steps we are now forced to use are steep, slippy and lead directly on to the rocks.

How long will it be before someone is seriously hurt simply trying to access the beach.

Who made the decision?

What risk assessment was carried out?

What consideration of health and safety was given?

I suspect it won’t be long before legal action is started against the borough council following the near certain accidents that will occur.
