Letter: ‘Nightmare’ rail journey off-putting to tourists

I write in response to Horace Clayton’s letter on train service (Gazette, February 12).

I too have experienced the ‘joys’ of the Middlesbrough to Whitby railway. I try to get up to Whitby Town FC as often as possible but this rail line is horrendous.

The train is often full before departing Middlesbrough and the journey is a nightmare.

I dread to think how many tourists this train puts off from visiting Whitby throughout the year.

The Coastliner isn’t much better.

Someone at the council or National Rail needs to come up with a way of improving public transport links into Whitby and allow the town access to extra tourism trade.
