Regarding all the recent coverage of the closure of the west pier extension, don’t hold your breath if you are expecting a rapid result for the repair work being done to the link bridge between the west pier and the extension if the current state of the lamps on the pier are any thing to go by.
I regularly walk down the west pier and some months ago I noticed the top of the lamps had been removed for renovation, plastic bags had been placed over the top of the lamp posts with signs on apologising for any inconvenience (please see attached photos).
As days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months I began to wonder just how long it takes to do a simple job like refurbishing or replacing half a dozen lamp tops, in July I thought perhaps an effort would be made to have the lamps back in working order for the Regatta but no such luck, perhaps maybe next Regatta!!
I actually thought about ringing the telephone number on the apology sign attached to the lamp-posts but I did not wish to be patronised by some one at the council giving me some lame excuse by telling me that I do not understand how the system works, What system?
Perhaps someone from your office could contact the council to find out just how long the lamp tops have been removed and when we can hope to have the lamps back to full operational use now that the long winter evenings are fast approaching.
