Lack of maintenance for piers

With much regret, recently, like most residents and holiday makers alike, I noticed the west pier extension was closed for health and safety reasons.

It has been reported that due to excessive corrosion the pier extension is in a dangerous state and the walkway needs replacing.

About nine years ago, we lost the connection on the east pier, no attempt was made to replace this.

Someone told me that the council said it would cost £18,000 to replace, after been taken down. Nothing has been done to date.

It is very obvious that Scarborough Borough Council have not lived up to their responsibility for maintaining the structure of both piers.

No one I know who works for Scarborough Borough Council, be it on the docks ext, can remember when any work to maintain the under walkway of either pier was ever done.
