Although it is now very many years since I lived in Whitby, the town where I am very proud to have been born and bred I still, as always, take a great interest in what goes on in the town and district and I thoroughly enjoy keeping in touch, thanks to the dear old Whitby Gazette.
However, after reading the idiotic suggestion that the cobbles in Whitby should be replaced by tarmac, of all things, I thought that it must be the most stupid suggestion ever, but apparently not, as having just read this week’s Gazette I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at the idea of artificial sand being deposited in that beautiful and unique village of Staithes where, incidentally I have numerous connections with both relatives and friends.
Thankfully I’m sure the powers that be would totally ignore such a ridiculous idea to perhaps amuse a few children from Bradford!
Although I know lots of lovely people visit Whitby and district year in year out I’m afraid a certain few seem to think that because they occasionally visit they have a right to tell local people what should be done.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if next week a letter will appear suggesting an escalator be installed up the “Donkey Path” to assist visitors in reaching the top of the 199 steps - perhaps for people from Bradford !?!
