Family search: Did you know Bottomleys?

I am actively seeking old friends, colleagues and customers of my parents, Brian and Maggie Bottomley, who ran The Mount antiques shop in Khyber Pass, Whitby, from 1973-94 who would like to contribute to a book of memoirs I am compiling about them.

I would particularly like to hear from anyone who trained with my mother, then Margaret Harrison, at Manchester School of Textile Design 1954-57, Brighton Art College 1958-9, previous pupils she taught (art, textile design and screen printing) at Withington Girls School 1960-1, Worcester Training College 1962-5, and Ripon College 1966-68.

I am also trying to trace three architects (who may have lived in St John’s, Wakefield) with a practice in Leeds for whom she did interior design work in the 1960s. My father Brian designed central heating systems for the architects, which I believe is where he met my mother. I would like to hear from any plumbing and heating engineers who worked with my father at Tong Road, Wortley in Leeds.

I would particularly like to hear from fellow runners from HareHill Harriers in Leeds or athletes who trained with or knew Brian. He ran for Yorkshire and won a few medals for mile and 400 metres. I am particularly keen to trace Derek Ibbotson, who I believe used to run with Brian at Yorkshire County Athletic Trials in the 1950s.

Also fellow players from Roundhay Rugby Club in Leeds, members of Yorkshire Yacht Clubs that may remember sailing with my parents in the 1960s and 70s, and Derek Naylor, journalist, who sailed with them from Whitby and wrote an article in the Yorkshire Post.

Brian’s boats included Solitude, Windsbraut, Thistledown and Cariad.
