The big summer festival in Whitby, organised by famous singer-songwriter Alistair Griffin, and drawing in hundreds of people has been cancelled.
Organisers said that financial challenges were behind the decision to pull the plug on the event this year.
But it is hoped that the fun will return again in 2019, if a headline sponsor can be found.
A spokesman for the event said: “We’re sorry to announce that Whitby Rising Music Festival will not be going ahead this year.
“As with any outdoor event, a music festival requires a big investment of time and money to make it happen.
“Unfortunately this year we haven’t managed to secure a main sponsor meaning Whitby Rising will be taking a year off and hopefully coming back stronger in 2019.
“Thank you to everyone who has attended and supported Whitby Rising in the last two years.”
