A giant ‘W’ shaped firework will sign off this year’s Whitby Regatta at the end of a “dazzling” fireworks display.

The finale is said to be “higher, faster and louder” than ever before as the bumper weekend signs off with a bang.

A spokesman said: “We have had so many positive comments over the past years about our imported fireworks which contain magnesium bright colours. Our palette of fireworks effects and colours have grown so much that at the beginning of this year we have created our most colourful and dazzling display yet called Kaleidoscope, which we will be blasting into the sky over Whitby to dazzle and entertain our audience.”

Regatta organisers were keen to thank Vitty’s Cottages (vittyscottages.co.uk) for a “sizeable donation” towards sponsoring the grand finale.

The display will open with special ‘Golden Willow’ shells that produce giant golden canopies, each with a different colour star at the end.

The dispaly will then move onto an array of colours to fill the sky over Whitby.

The Regatta fireworks are a special end to the big weekend.

They proved extra special last year for a couple from Tyneside.

Andrew Venus proposed to his girlfriend Rebecca Long as the fireworks unfolded.

Regatta weekend takes place this year from August 10 to 13.

Other attractions include a fun run, the raft race, rowing races and the greasy pole competition.
