This week’s photo from Whitby Memories Facebook group shows the Mulgrave Castle Inn, a pub which once stood on the edge of Upgang Ravine.
It had a notorious reputation for the smuggling trade - hardly surprising as the inn had commanding views over a wide stretch of coastline from Whitby harbour across the bay to Sandsend.
The last landlord was a Mr Cornforth.
Much of the building crumbled into the sea around 1887.
