A man has appeared in court accused of carrying out a pair of assaults in Whitby while armed with a hammer and a knuckle duster.

Richard Daniel Corner, 23, of Newport Road, Middlesbrough, appeared at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court charged with two counts of assault, two of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and criminal damage.

It is alleged that on November 29 Corner attacked a Whitby man in Fishburn Road, while in possession of a claw hammer.

On December 1, the same victim is alleged to have been subject to another assault in Windsor Terrace, while he had a knuckle duster on his person.

Three days later, Corner is alleged to have caused £100 worth of damage to the same victim’s home.

Corner did not enter a plea at the hearing and the case was adjourned until February 10.

He was granted conditional bail, and must not contact his victim nor enter Whitby.
