Alan Campbell, Tynemouth MP, along with representatives from Generation North East, Lorreen Butler and Mike Hawkins, visited the trainees from Whitby Fishing School on North Shields Fish Quay last Thursday.

The trainees are all local lads and are working out of North Shields on local boats.

The Whitby-based fishing school offers a comprehensive 12 month Diploma

course in commercial fishing. Generation NE are working with the training school to place young people on the course.

Terry McDermott, Training North Co-ordinator, said:

“We are delighted with the support we get from Mr Campbell and Lorreens

team at Generation NE, together with the local skippers who add to their

workload by taking the lads on. A very big thank you to you all.”
