See Bram Stoker’s inspiration in a new light as Whitby Abbey is bathed in dramatic illuminations this half-term. As you explore its gothic splendour, costumed characters will introduce the darker side of the past with tales of grave robbing and witch trials. You can also experience a live performance of Dracula to complete your visit. The abbey illumination is on from Wednesday to next Saturday, 6pm to 9.30pm. The event is part of Yorkshire Abbey Season, celebrating some of the county’s finest abbeys and their rich histories with a programme of special events across the north.
Also this Hallowe’en half term, frighteningly fun activities are in store at the abbey with a Victorian Undertaker. Wrap up warm and take a wander around the atmospheric abbey that inspired Stoker’s gothic story, Dracula. It is the perfect setting to mark the ghoulish holidays and to blow off some cobwebs before school begins again.
