WEATHER: Snow falling on North York Moors as A171 closed near Guisborough

AA traffic news is reporting the closure of the A171 and stationary traffic due to a stalled truck on A171 Eastbound from Whitby Lane to Margrove Road.

Police closed the road at around 07:30 this morning to arrange recovery of the 100 hundred tonne articulated lorry.

Snow falling across the North York Moors is expected to last until lunchtime.

A spell of persistent and heavy snow is likely during Tuesday morning, with some significant accumulations likely in places, before snow gradually becomes confined to the hills. Turning showery and less cold from the south during the afternoon. Winds easing. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Tonight:

Further outbreaks of rain or showers overnight, some heavy, with any snow confined to the hill tops in the north. Still generally cold, strong winds easing later. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Wednesday:

Further outbreaks of rain persisting in the north, drier but largely cloudy elsewhere. Generally lighter winds but less cold in the south. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Thursday, generally rather cloudy, less cold. Some rain likely in north. Friday and Saturday, further spells of rain likely, turning wintry later as colder east winds develop.
