With the annual Eskdale Festival of the Arts less than two weeks away, organisers are on the lookout for volunteer stewards to lend a hand at the event.

Chairman Dave Bradley said: “We do have a superb team of volunteers but if we could find two or three more adults who would be willing to give up a morning or afternoon, it would be a great help to the team.

“I’m sure that there must be lots of parents who know the festival, have had their own children through this annual event and would be willing to give something back.”

This year the ‘Spoken Word’ competition takes place at Whitby Pavilion on Wednesday March 4 (9.30am-6pm) and Thursday March 5 (9.30am-noon).

The festival’s music competition is being held at the same venue between Monday March 9 and Thursday March 12.

The gala concert – sponsored by Boyes – will be held on Saturday March 14 at 6.30pm in the Northern Lights Suite.

The festival has teamed up with Musicport for 2015 and £400 has been donated which will enable 20 musicians to work alongside a professional chamber orchestra for a half-day workshop on Saturday March 7.

A free Jazz Lunchtime session has also been organised for Sunday March 8. It will take place in the Pavilion.

Another new feature for the festival is the introduction of a big band competition which will be held on the afternoon of Saturday March 14.

This will feature youth bands from Whitby, Selby and Harrogate.

Anyone interested in volunteering their services during the festival should contact secretary David Rowland on (01947) 600403.
