The people of Runswick Bay turned out to support the village’s rescue boat by raising over £2,400 to help run it.

A weekend of activities for all the family were held in the village, which kicked off with a beef supper on the Friday night for over 80 people served up by the crew.

There was a DIY mass barbecue on the Saturday which was attended by members of the Whitby Pirates Society. Sunday started with a coffee morning followed by a demonstration of the boat by the crew and rides for the public.

A raft building and racing competition followed.

Whitby Pirates handed over a cheque in excess of £1,400 for the Runswick Bay Rescue Boat, which they have collected throughout the year, and in turn the rescue boat organisation handed over £1200 to the Coastal Protection Trust following an auction.
