A van was left dangling over a 40ft drop after sliding down an icy hill in Scarborough.

The van's driver got out after being involved in a minor bump with another vehicle on Mere Lane before his van skidded backwards down the hill and came to rest hanging over a 40ft embankment.

The drama, which happened yesterday, continued as another vehicle then skid down the hill and hit a fence.

No-one was hurt and amazingly none of the vehicles were damaged.

Firefighters were called at 12.56pm to pull the van back onto the road.

A crew were later called to Woodlands Drive in Scarborough after a cardboard box left on a hob caught fire.

The fire was out by the time the team arrived, shortly after 1.48pm, and they used fans to clear smoke from the building.
