Whitby cycle scheme to benefit from Department for Transport funding
A cycling scheme in Whitby will go forward to the next stage following North Yorkshire County Council’s acceptance of more than £1m in funding from the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Active Travel Fund.
The scheme at Guisborough Road, park and ride site to Prospect Hill, segregated walkways and cycle lanes along the existing park, and ride route is now under consideration.
The Whitby scheme is one of four set to benefit.
County Councillor Don Mackenzie, executive member for access, said: “The grant awarded to us by the DfT comes with strict conditions.
“The schemes need to be delivered quickly, should reallocate road space from vehicles in favour of cyclists and pedestrians, and offer alternatives to existing, well-used bus routes.”
