Children at Stakesby School got an up-close look at a hot air balloon on Wednesday.
As part of the school’s term-long project entitled Up, Up and Away, pupils met hot air balloon pilots Duncan Lambert and Malcolm Skilbeck, of the Rix Balloon team.
Unfortunately, high winds gusting in a direction that would have blown the balloon over restricted airspace at RAF Fylingdales meant it could not be completely inflated, however the children did get to see the propane burners in action.
The school project relates to a wide range of subjects, themed around the word ‘up’. They spread from flight, to space travel, to plants that grow towards the sun.
