STAITHES and Runswick Bay’s volunteer RNLI crew were launched to rescue a broken down vessel that was perilously close to rocks near Skinningrove on Monday.
At 4.16pm the lifeboat launched and located the 4 metre angling vessel, with two persons onboard, close inshore under the cliffs.
The vessel had anchored but was in immediate danger and so the decision was made to tow the vessel back to Skinningrove and allow them to come ashore using their small auxiliary engine.
The lifeboat crew ensured the casualty vessel returned safely to Skinningrove, where the village’s coastguard team was waiting to help.
The Staithes and Runswick lifeboat returned to Staithes harbour and was re-housed and made ready for service at 5.25pm.
