NYMR back up and running after bridge strike drama near Goathland

The 0920 NYMR Optimist Service had to be cancelled this morning after a bridge strike near Goathland left the track littered with debris.

Pictures taken by local resident Kerry Rees clearly show the extent of the damage to Cow Wath Bridge.

She said: “When I got there this morning, a guy I met coming the other way came to investigate as he heard the crash but lives by the station, so it was minutes after but there was no lorry in sight.

“They must have driven off not realising they'd actually knocked it down.”

NYMR staff were quick to assess the situation and trains were given the all clear to get up and running again from 1200.

The bridge remains open and businesses in the village are able to trade as normal.
