A man who was seriously injured in a four car crash on New Year’s Eve is now in a ‘stable’ condition say police.
The 29 year-old from Guisborough was taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough with serious injuries following the incident on the A171 Whitby to Guisborough Road at around 5.15pm on Wednesday.
He was in a Vauxhall Vectra which was heading away from Whitby.
The other vehicles involved were a silver Toyota Aygo, a white Ford Grand C-Max and silver Skoda Octavia which were all travelling in the direction of Whitby.
The drivers and passengers of those vehicles escaped with slight injuries.
Police are continuing their inquiries into the collision which happened near Ugthorpe, about 800 metres south of the Mickleby road turn-off towards Scaling Dam.
The road was closed and local diversions remained in place until the road re-opened at around midnight.
Witnesses to the collision or anyone with information that could assist the investigation, is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2, and ask for Dan Hughes or Roads Policing Group Scarborough.
