A family was rescued from a road-side ditch after a two-vehicle collision on Saturday.

The crash took place on the A169 Whitby to Pickering road close to RAF Fylingdales at about 9.25am on Saturday.

A blue MG ZR car and a blue Fiat Panda were involved in the crash and the five occupants of the Fiat were all taken to Scarborough Hospital for treatment.

None suffered life-threatening injuries and it is believed they are grandparents and their grandchildren who were visiting from the Birmingham area.

The man driving the MG is from the Stafford area and was also uninjured.

Emergency assistance was also provided by North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and staff from RAF Fylingdales.

Traffic was managed around the collision scene to allow the police to investigate and for the recovery of the Fiat Panda from the ditch. The road was back to normal by 11.50am.

Witnesses to the collision or anyone who recalls seeing either the blue Fiat Panda or the blue MG ZR prior to the incident, are urged to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2, and ask for Gareth Gilleard. Or email
