VITAL works being carried out by Network Rail on the Esk Valley line are set to continue until Saturday (16 June).

Four bridges between Danby and Glaisdale are being replaced to ensure the future of the line and Network Rail has advised Northern Rail, who operates a busy commuter service on the route, that works will now continue until Friday evening, with the line open for a normal service to resume on Saturday morning.

Richard Allan, area director for Northern Rail said: “Work on the line is continuing for longer than originally anticipated and we would like to apologise to those passengers who have been affected. We will continue to operate a strengthened bus service on the route with additional buses to cater for school children and commuters.

“We are working closely with Network Rail to ensure that the alternative road transport we provide throughout the week helps minimise the impact of the extended works on our passengers.

“The delays have been caused by complications on site, with unstable structural conditions having been exaggerated by the recent inclement weather as well as a restriction on works imposed after the discovery of a birds nest on Carr End Bridge.”
