Chaos caused by colossal pothole in Bridlington leads to a number of complaints to the council

Last week traffic chaos was caused by a huge pothole in Bridlington which left many cars damaged and residents outraged.

On Scarborough Road, Bridlington, a massive pothole has been formed due to the recent bad weather conditions in the area.

Callum Mainprize was one of the many drivers affected with his car being severely damaged by the pothole.

Mr Mainprize said: “I would like to say just how poor the council are when it comes to repairing the roads around Bridlington.

“In this case it looks like they’ve tried to repair it but it was such a poor quality repair it’s not helped at all.

“My suspension is broken in my car, and to be honest it just isn’t worth going through the council to ask for help.

“There has to have been at least 20 cars if not more involved hitting the hole in the road.”

Mr Mainprize has also sent a letter of complaint to the council about the incident.

An East Riding of Yorkshire Council spokesperson said:

"Following the recent prolonged spell of very cold weather, our highways crews are busy repairing potholes across the East Riding. This includes individual pothole repairs, as well as continuing to resurface larger sections of roads to improve quality and safety.

"The pothole located on Scarborough Road, Bridlington, has been temporarily repaired to make the area safe.

"Our teams have been busy throughout the year fixing potholes as part of our ongoing maintenance. Since the cold snap at the beginning of December ,our teams have seen a noticeable increase in potholes, which is why some repairs will be carried out during the evening using temporary material.

"Our engineers regularly check East Riding roads and pavements for potholes and other defects. When we find a problem, we log it for repair. Busy routes are inspected frequently but quieter routes are inspected less often.
