WHITBY’S lifeboat was called to the rescue of a small speed boat with a rather obscene name last Friday.

At 11.04am Humber Coastguard contacted Whitby’s RNLI crew to request assistance for the small boat, named Bitch, which broke down 1.25 miles north-west of Whitby’s High Light, with three people onboard.

Whitby RNLI’s coxwain Mike Russell said: “We had towed the same boat in the week before so we knew all about it.

“We all had a bit of a giggle, we get some very strange names for boats.”

The George and Mary Webb was launched and established a tow, bringing the boat back into Whitby harbour at 11.44am.
