Police were called to Boulby Mine earlier today (Monday) after reports of a sudden death.
A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said the 53 year-old man’s death was not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
They said: “Police were called to Boulby Mine near Loftus at around 1.55pm today, Monday 22nd February, to a report of the sudden death of a 53-year-old man. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.”
ICL UK, the firm which owns the mine has issued the following statement.
“Everyone at the mine is deeply saddened by this tragic incident. Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends and we will be doing everything possible to support them at this very difficult time.
“The police have made clear the death is not being treated as suspicious. We will, of course, provide any information which the Coroner may require.”
