Whitby’s RNLI crew were called out this morning (Tuesday) to help with an operation to recover a fishing boat that had sunk overnight.
The volunteer crew took the boat up the harbour to assess the situation, though no passengers were on board the vessel called Stoney-broke, at the time of the sinking.
Station mechanic Richard Dowson said “We are waiting for low tide and the boat to be resting on the bottom of the harbour and hopefully we will be able to pump the water out and get her floating again”
The lifesaving charity are currently still on the scene as the operation continues. Fire crews were also in attendance earlier.
