Steam train sparks fire

Fire crews from Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay battled a line side fire near Beck Hole on Tuesday for almost three hours.

The fire brigade were called at 2.17pm to reports of a fire south of the Beck Hole bridge and remained on the scene until 5.10pm. The cause of the fire is believed to be a spark from a passing NYMR steam engine and was made worse due to a high wind fuelling the flames.
