Whitby’s Stakesby School has been recognised for 15 consecutive years as providing very effective teaching and learning in language and maths, following a recent assessment.

The assessors, who in other roles are Ofsted inspectors, could not praise the school highly enough, said Head Roy Gunning, and were delighted by the staff, pupils and environment.

The pair were assessing the school for its Basic Skills Quality Mark, which it now has for the next three years, while
also looking at the school’s first application for the Early Years Quality Mark, which was also successful.

The school’s “positive, happy and nurturing ethos” was singled out and the children polite, considerate, well-mannered and articulate.

Mr Gunning added: “It is great that our excellent provision now holds this nationally recognised award.

“I am really proud to be leading such a great community of learners, staff and their families.”
