Staithes Coastguard's 'potentially fatal' warning after landslip at Runswick Bay

Coastguards are warning walkers to stay away from the Yorkshire Coast's cliff edges after another landslip.

Staithes Coastguard say a member of Runswick Bay Rescue Boat's crew reported the cliff fall to them on Runswick beach, immediately beyond the sea wall.

They say it has left a substantial overhang on the cliff above which is in danger of further collapse.

The coastguard team posted on social media: "Please avoid walking under the cliffs or close to the cliff edges as we are receiving reports of large cliff falls daily.

"The cliffs fall with no warning and being on the receiving end of even a small avalanche will be fatal.

"If you see a cliff fall or spot someone in difficulty on the coast please don't use social media, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard."
