Staithes cliff death ‘not suspicious’

Cleveland Police are not treating the death of a man who died after falling off a cliff at Staithes as suspicious.

The man, who is not believed to be from the local area, plunged 200ft from Cowbar Cliff on Wednesday evening.

His body was spotted on the foreshore rocks at around 8pm by a member of the public who was out walking.

Staithes and Runswick RNLI crew members assisted police officers and coastguard in recovering the body.

Humber Coastguard requested the Staithes lifeboat to launch, but crew members were able to reach the man on foot before the tide came in.

The man’s body was brought back to the Staithes RNLI boathouse.
