Visitors were wowed by the lanterns created by school pupils.

They had worked with Animated Objects Theatre Company to produce an array of stunning designs.

The youngsters created lanterns representing iconic Whitby sights, including the Whitby lifeboat, Whitby Abbey, the whale bones and beach huts.

The procession was led through the market shortly before cricketer, Adam Lyth and Airy Hill School pupil, Mabel Witney switched on the Christmas lights.

Whitby Town Council extended their thanks to the
businesses, community groups and individuals who helped make the
event a success.
